Here’s What Tiffany Haddish Did With The $80,000 She Made Starring In Girls Trip

Tiffany Haddish is a true rag-to-riches Hollywood story. The Los Angeles native overcame poverty and ab’use to become one of the most recognized comedians on the planet. For Haddish, life in the spotlight has been more about healing childhood tr’auma than continuing to strive for career highs, and in recent years her acting has taken a back seat to personal milestones like reconnecting with her father’s birthland and figuring out when and with whom she will finally start a family.

Tiffany Haddish grew up in an ab’usive household and suffered a lot at the hands of her mother, who was struggling with mental illness. Haddish ended up in foster care before eventually landing with her grandmother. Unfortunately but the end of high school, she was back on the streets and living in her car. Stories of Haddish struggle have come up over the years, as the actress continued to sleep in her car on and off as she tried to land her big break. This break would come in the form of the film Girls Trip. Starring Queen Latifah, Jada Pinkett-Smith, and Regina Hall, Girls Trip catapulted Haddish into the mainstream. It made over $140 million at the box office and solidified her as a star. While Haddish clearly was not upset at the come-up, one thing she was making sure of was that it meant she never ended up back on the street.

Being the newest actress in the film, Tiffany did not demand the same salary as her co-stars. She pocketed only $80,000 in comparison to Queen, Jada, and Regina, who all had proven box office success coming into their roles. Haddish had been on a steady incline before Girls Trip, thanks to her work on Tyler Perry’s If Loving You Is Wrong and The Carmichael Show. At the time, Haddish used her income to purchase a house and was working hard to pay it off out of fear that she could go homeless again. For a time, she was suriving on $500 a month while putting all her money towards the home.

“So before we even got into season 2 of The Carmichael Show, I bought a house,” Tiffany told Cosmopolitan. She is the current cover star of their Travel Issue. “Everybody told me I should wait, but I didn’t care. I just knew I was going to have to always make enough money to take care of me and the house, and that’s what I did.” Haddish says she worked hard and put everything towards the house until she was able to pay off half.

Tiffany then applied her Girls Trip check entirely to the house, completing payments in the process. Now, as a megastar, Tiffany says she keeps her peace of mind by using her surplus of money to buy land whenever she can to ensure generational wealth for her family. During the accompanying shoot, Tiffany admits that she walked in the same area of Los Angeles when she was homeless and dreamed of times like this, making the interview a full circle moment for her.
